Overview

An IT conference built around Niigata's rice and sake culture. Launched in 2025 as the "New Rice Conference," it drew 98 attendees including many from outside the prefecture. The 2026 theme is "Omusubi Conference." Its single-track format and the local touch of handing out rice to attendees mark it as a new model for regional conferences.

Program

  • Three tracks (A, B, C) plus a 90-minute sponsor hands-on in a separate room
  • A keynote by Takahiro Fujiwara and an invited talk by nkzn
  • 15 selected 20-minute talks and 6 lightning talks
  • Two sponsor sessions and five sponsor lightning talks
  • An after-party follows (separate connpass registration)

Foundation

Founded
2025
Founder
KomeKaigi Organizing Committee (ariaki and others)

Founded in 2025 to create a place where Niigata's IT engineers gather, learn, and connect. Organizers deliberately timed it to the rice harvest, designing the season and place themselves into an experience available nowhere else, which draws attendees from beyond the prefecture.

Transition

  1. 2025 First held as the New Rice Conference at Kaishi Professional University Komeyama Campus, with 98 attendees
  2. 2026 Themed Omusubi Conference and held October 31 at NINNO3, a minute's walk from Niigata Station south exit

Voices

The single-track format let attendees concentrate on each session in turn, and a talk on supporting the growth of regional students drew the writer into a Q&A exchange with the speaker. Handing out rice to attendees felt distinctly local. (from syossan's 2025 report, in Japanese)
Despite being the first edition, it drew attendees from outside the prefecture, fulfilling the organizers' aim of technical connection and human exchange. The reception featured prefecture-themed dishware and regional cuisine, making technology and local culture continuous. (from SEN PRODUCT BLOG's 2025 report, in Japanese)
