Open Source Conference 2026 Kyoto
Overview
The Kyoto stop of the travelling open source festival that began in Tokyo in 2004. A free one-day event packing community, corporate and school exhibition booths together with multi-track seminars and lightning talks, held on the basement floors of Kyoto Research Park Building 4. The previous edition drew 290 visitors, 34 seminars and 46 booths, and it serves as the annual meeting point for Kansai's open source communities.

The open source festival started in Tokyo in 2004. Local executive committees host regional editions across Japan, keeping the same format for over two decades - free admission, exhibits and seminars completed in a single day. The Kyoto edition has long used Kyoto Research Park and has settled into a midsummer slot.

SPI Japan 2026
A specialist software process improvement conference run by the Japan SPI Consortium (JASPIC) since 2000. It travels to a different host city each year, and in 2026 runs for three days at AOSSA in Fukui City. Built around corporate improvement case studies and tutorials, its ¥40,000 main-conference fee marks it as a dense, practitioner-facing event.
GREE Tech Conference 2026
A technology conference hosted by GREE Holdings under the theme "How We Build", framed around the process of development rather than the finished product. Three parallel tracks cover AI, data analysis, game development, infrastructure, and security, with a keynote by the company's Masaki Fujimoto. Free to attend in a hybrid format, including seats that come with an office tour.
Kaigi on Rails 2026
Japan's largest conference for Ruby on Rails users, positioned as "a web technology conference enjoyable for everyone from beginners to experts" with a strong focus on practical, production-grounded sessions. The 2026 edition runs two keynotes — Ruby creator Yukihiro Matsumoto on day one and Rails creator DHH on day two. It continues its hybrid format with several hundred on-site attendees.
